The 25th Melbourne Fashion Festival began in style with a celebration of fashion at one of the state’s most iconic locations.
Late last month, the Governor, the Honourable Linda Dessau AC, and Mr Anthony Howard QC, hosted the program launch of the 2021 Melbourne Fashion Festival in the ballroom at Government House, Victoria. The breath-taking space, with its soaring ceilings and grand gold detailing, provided the perfect backdrop to celebrate 25 years of fashion, arts and ideas. The Governor welcomed a chic and socially distanced gathering, saying, “As Australia’s longest-running fashion event, the Festival will again be an integral part of Victoria’s renowned major events, and an indispensable part of Melbourne’s cultural landscape.” She continued, “As well, the Festival will, as always, provide a significant boost to our fashion industry and to our State’s economy. Never has that been more important.” The incredible 145-year-old ballroom was then converted to a grand runway featuring looks from 25 local designers chosen to mark 25 years of the Festival. Show-stopping pieces from Melbourne brands including Gorman, JASONGRECH and Ngali imbued the evening with elegance. Browse some of the looks below and click to page 19 for the best-dressed guests. ▾
